Things we will need
You
might not get into Ethiopia unless you have a return air-ticket. They
expect to see a ticket home before they will grant you an entry visa.
If your country is not on this list - Argentina,

France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea Republic,
Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland,
Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
United Kingdom, United States. - you need
to get the visa before you fly. You can normally do this by post, or
in person, at your nearest Ethiopian Embassy.

Note: You may need spare passport photos. - "If applying for a tourist visa on arrival, visitors will need to bring with them two recent passport-sized photographs and no less than US $100 before their application can be processed."
Yellow fever immunization is recommended and have your certificate upon your arrival in Ethiopia.
The
only safe way to get there is to fly - you can fly right to Axum.
There is also a bus from Addis, if you prefer, but it takes 3 days to
get to Axum with over-night stops along the way..
Credit cards are no good most places in Ethiopia - you will need cash - US dollars are fine.
The Axum area is Christian and peaceful. Axum has a small airfield and a couple of hotels. We should be able to buy most things we need in Ethiopia, at least for the first few years.

You know next future times will be not easy. Medical attention will be a problem then.
This is my recomendation:
1-Get yourself a complete medical check. If any medical treatment is necessary, start it now. You have time until 2006.
2-Put your mouth in order. A teeth infection can be a serious problem.
3-An excess weight of 10kg could be recommendable, 15 Kg as maximum. Extra weight means greater reserves for low food period. In extreme conditions you will burn it in only one month. I know it by own survival experience. No fat people will be in a certain disadvantage because they have less reserves. More than 15kg is no good, because you will have no mobility. But in future conditions you will be extra fat people turning thin. Take WWII experiences. In this moment, some of my friends have added 10kg to their normal weight and stabilised weight there.
